Singapore paddlers Feng Tianwei, Li Jiawei and Wang Yuegu Honoured

Team Singapore paddlers Feng Tianwei, Li Jiawei and Wang Yuegu were well rewarded for their medal winning exploits at the 2012 London Olympic Games on Tuesday, ESPN reports.

Feng beat Kasumi Ishikawa of Japan 4–0 to win the women's singles bronze medal at the 2012 Summer Olympics in London, Singapore's first Olympic singles medal since the 1960 Summer Olympics. The paddlers took home a total of $625,000 through Singapore National Olympic Council's (SNOC's) Multi-Million Dollar Award Programme.

Olympians Singapore is an organisation set up in 2009 that aims to promote the Olympic values of respect, excellence and friendship. Presenting the awards at an appreciation dinner at the Mandarin Oriental Hotel earlier this evening was Deputy Prime Minister and Singapore National Olympic Council president Teo Chee Hean, and Acting Minister for Community Development, Youth and Sports Chan Chun Sing.

Deputy Prime Minister Teo Chee Hean said at the event, "Your mental strength and fortitude represent qualities we can all learn from. You have blazed the trail and inspired many young people, who now dare to dream even bigger because of you."

Feng, who made her international début for Singapore in June 2007 as an under-21 player at the International Table Tennis Federation (ITTF) Pro Tour Volkswagen Korean Open, also spoke, "We have had a tough year leading to the London 2012 Olympic Games, and I am very happy that we came together as a team to win two medals for Singapore. The Olympic Games ended our year on a high note, and I also hope that our performance will encourage more Singaporeans to come forward to take up table tennis and bring more glory to our nation."
