A Somerset County jury convicted Locane of vehicular homicide and assault by auto on November 27, 2012. Locane is currently awaiting sentencing.
Somerset County prosecutors said her blood-alcohol level was nearly three times the legal limit when the crash occurred on a dark two-lane road in Montgomery Township. She faces five to 10 years and an additional three to five years, respectively, on each conviction.
Authorities believe her intoxication was instrumental in the death of a 60-year-old woman. The victim’s husband survived the incident. Her bail was revoked after the verdict and she is now in jail.
According to the Associated Press, Locane-Bovenizer’s defense doesn’t dispute the fact that she was drunk, only that she shouldn’t be held criminally responsible for the accident. The mother-of-two is married to liquor store owner Mark Bovenizer.
Locane-Bovenizer appeared in 13 episodes of Melrose Place in the role of Sandy Louise Harling and in movies including Cry-Baby opposite Johnny Depp, School Ties and Secretary. "This is a sad day for the Seeman Family. There were no winners declared by the verdict. There are only losers," Assistant Prosecutor Matthew Murphy said.
"A husband lost his dear wife; his two children lost their mother; and Helene's mother lost her daughter. That loss can never be rectified by a verdict." According to the Washington Post, the actress could face five to 10 years in prison for the vehicular homicide charge. The ruling stipulates that she must spend at least 85 percent of her time behind bars without parole.
