This is the latest news update that Malala Yusufzai, the National Peace Award winner who came under the global spotlight for her efforts to bring back peace to her hometown Swat, was critically injured, along with another girl student, after a gunman fired upon her school van on Tuesday in Mingora town of district Swat.

The international children's advocacy group KidsRights Foundation included Yousafzai among the nominees for the International Children's Peace Prize, making her the first Pakistani girl nominated for the award. A hospital source said while telling the details about the firing incident, “She received two bullets in the attack and being treated in Saido Sharif hospital."
Police said a gunman opened fire on a school vehicle when Yousafzai along with other students came out from the school and boarded the van. "Malala was getting into her school bus after school when two gunmen opened fire on her, injuring her and one of her friends," police official Rasool Shah told AFP.
Prime Minister Raja Pervez Ashraf has condemned the attack on Malala Yusufzai. He said such acts can never shake the resolve of people pursuing peace. He said an helicopter brining Malala to Islamabad.
Treatment is underway. Details of the shooting are still emerging. Malala also conveyed a message to those parents through media who are reluctant to get their children educated out of fear of social oddities of the Pakhtun culture.
