Colombian singer Shakira confirmed on her website on Wednesday that she is expecting her first child, with her Spanish soccer player boyfriend Gerard Pique.
"Waka Waka" hit-maker has also revealed that she has decided to cut down on her work schedule over the coming weeks. Shakira wrote on her website, "As some of you may know, Gerard and I are very happy awaiting the arrival of our first baby!"
She dated Antonio de La Rua, the son of former Argentinian President Fernando de la Rua, for more than a decade. They split in 2011. The Grammy-winning singer wrote more on website, "At this time we have decided to give priority to this unique moment in our lives and postpone all the promotional activities planned over the next few days."
She would be canceling her appearance at the iHeartRadio Music Festival in Las Vegas on September 21 and September 22, where she was set to perform along with fellow Latin entertainers Enrique Iglesias and Pitbull.
She tweeted, "I was really looking forward to the amazing #iHeartRadio Music Festival, but will see you guys soon! Shak." The couple have been dating for 18 months but Shakira only confirmed their relationship last year by posting a soppy picture on Twitter and called Gerard ‘my sunshine’ in Spanish.
Pique, 25, plays for FC Barcelona. Shakira has over 54 million Facebook followers. "Hips Don't Lie" singer has just signed up to become one of the coaches on the U.S version of The Voice and will replace Christina Aguilera in season four next year.
