Malala Yousafzai's Next 36-48 hours 'CRITICAL'

Director General Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) Maj-Gen Asim Bajwa said on Friday that Malala Yousufzai’s condition had improved, adding that, that the next 36 to 48 hours were critical. He was talking on the state of Malala, a 14-year-old child activist shot by the Taliban.

He said that the transfer from Peshwar to Rawalpindi, although difficult, had transpired successfully. “Her blood pressure is normal. Heartbeat is normal, and thanks to God, her condition is satisfactory,” Bajwa said. She was flown by an air-ambulance from Combined Military Hospital (CMH) Peshawar to the Armed Forces Institute of Cardiology (AFIC), a health unit of CMH Rawalpindi on Thursday.

On Friday, school children dedicated prayers to her recovery in morning assemblies and special prayers will also be offered after weekly prayers at mosques across the country.  Clerics on Friday declared the attempt on her life, made by Pakistani Taliban gunmen while the 14-year-old girl was on her way home from school in the Swat valley, to be “un-Islamic”.

Reports in the Pakistani media suggested that the government was considering sending her overseas for treatment, but Bajwa said Friday that “so far there is no plan to take her abroad.” Answering a question regarding composition of the medical team, he said it includes specialists from abroad, senior specialists from civil set up and senior doctors from Pakistan Army.

Earlier, doctors had said that Malala had a 70 per cent chance of survival and despite improvement, was seriously ill. Currently, all the doctors on the panel treating Malala were Pakistanis but two foreign doctors were also being consulted on the treatment.

Two armed men, on foot, stopped a van packed with about a dozen schoolgirls in a congested area of the town. One of them got into the van and asked which of the girls was Malala Yousafzai before he fired three shots, hitting Malala in the head and injuring two others.

The clerics of the SIC said that attacking innocent women and children “was not jihad”. They also said the attackers were “agents of Washington”, defaming Islam, undermining Pakistan and legitimising the branding of Muslims as “terrorists”. Pakistan’s foreign minister, Hina Rabbani Khar, on Thursday called the attempted assassination of Malala “a wake-up call” for the nation.

Malala Yousafzai Still Critical, Being Shifted To Rawalpindi For Further Treatment

Malala Yousafzai was being sent to the top military hospital in Rawalpindi, a government official confirmed on Thursday. “Her condition is not yet out of danger despite improvement. She is being shifted to Rawalpindi,” Governor Kyber-Pakhtunkhwa Masood Kausar told reporters.

According to the DG ISPR Asim Bajwa, Malala will be accompanied by her doctors during the transfer. The decision to shift Malala to Rawalpindi was made by a panel of Pakistani and British doctors. Asked whether she was being sent to the top military hospital in the city, a military official confirmed to AFP only that she was being moved and that a further announcement would be made shortly.

Neurosurgeon Colonel Junaid told reporters that the next 10-15 days are critical for Malala. There are mounting questions about how the attack could have happened and how the perpetrators simply walked away in an area with a visible police and army presence.

“The cowards who attacked Malala and her fellow students have shown time and again how little regard they have for human life and how low they can fall in their cruel ambition to impose their twisted ideology,” Gen Kayani said yesterday in a statement.

Interior Minister Rehman Malik and KP information minister Mian Iftikhar Hussain told reporters on Thursday that Malala would not be sent abroad for treatment as her condition was improving. Taliban spokesman Ehsanullah Ehsan had said his group was behind the shooting.

Malala won international prominence after highlighting Taliban atrocities in Swat with a blog for the BBC three years ago, when the militants burned girls  schools and terrorised the valley before the army intervened.

Ehsanullah Ehsan, spokesman for the Pakistani wing of the Taliban, assumed responsibility for the Taliban shooting in the head of Malala. He said that the teenager’s work had been an “obscenity” that needed to be stopped: “This was a new chapter of obscenity, and we have to finish this chapter.

Malala wrote in her diary for BBC that she exposed the suffering caused by the militants as they ruled. She said, "At that time some of us would go to school in plain clothes, not in school uniform, just to pretend we are not students, and we hid our books under our shawls.”

Unidentified men stopped the vehicle, asking if it was the transport from Khushal school. When told that it was, one man asked: "Where is Malalai?" As she was identified, the assailant reportedly drew a pistol and shot Malalai in the head and the neck. Her friend was shot in the hand.

There are lot of people who are struggling hard to prove that we are not facing any critical terrorism, extremism and target killing---but we should have believe on such a painful truth.
